If
you have (second-hand) theological books to throw away,
please throw them at ATEN. Before parting with them, please
realise that besides the obvious, books have a lot of other
uses- pillows for nights in Indian trains, weights to straighten
out unwanted creases on trousers, instruments to butcher
mosquitoes and flies, missiles against colleagues who start
to irritable... If you still want ATEN to benefit from these
applications, please follow the following simple guidelines.
1)
Books in any department of theology will do- Old Testament,
New Testament, Church History, Biography, Church Fathers
(writings of Clement, Origen, Jerome, etc); Reformers (works
by Martin Luther, John Calvin, etc); Bible Interpretation;
Homiletics; Famous Preachers (Spurgeon, Edwards, Lloyd Jones);
Mission, and many others which escape me... For commentaries,
we prefer those written after 1980 in the hope that the
authors will have made use of the Dead Sea Scrolls. Some
works remain classics no matter how old (but not silver-fish
and termites eaten)- send them.
2)
The ATEN library keeps four copies, and gives away the rest
to smaller libraries of member Bible schools/colleges. So,
you may send any book; and we will keep or give away. However,
if you want to send only those we DO NOT HAVE and save on
the postage, please give us a list through e-mail
or fill out the form below; and we will confirm which to
omit.
3)
Please use regular SEA MAIL or the Post office Mailbags
if you happen to live in the US or Canada. Basically by
the cheapest medium you can find. Using international couriers
mean that the books arrive at the airport. Workers of these
companies try to fleece ATEN first. Then the airport-authorities
will waste at least a day on paper works and demand duty,
charges of various sorts, which happily do not apply to
the post office. We have so far lost but one shipment of
books, which the senders thought we deserved to lose because
most of the theologians writing them were liberal! In other
words, we have lost very few books in the mail.
4)
To guard against rain, monsoon or perpetual (as in the UK),
please enclose the books in plastic before packing them
into the cardboard boxes or postal bags (available in the
US post offices).
5)
Please address the books to
Mr
Divya Khanal
ATEN
GPO Box 4368
Kathmandu
Nepal
Please include 'ATEN' in the address because that
is the name registered with the government. If the authorities
get tough, Divya Khanal then gets to flash our latest registration
certificate in their faces; so 'ATEN' should be on the address. It's
Mr Divya Khanal's birthright to collect your valued books.
He gets better at it each day. Please do not use any other
person's name in the address.
6) Please send us an e-mail when you have mailed the books
to ATEN. We will confirm when they have reached us. If you
do not hear from us even after three months, please send
us another e-mail. Please remind us to remind you.
Thanks.
The
Form below is optional. You may use it to submit a book
list. Please make sure that your e-mail address is correctly
entered, otherwise we may not be able to get back to you.
