May 2008, Forgiveness and Reconciliation Seminar in Godavari, Kathmandu

The second reconciliation seminar held jointly by ATEN and UMN took place in Godavari, Kathmandu from May 5-8, 2008. This year we had Emmanuel Kopwe and his wife Angeline. both from Tanzania, particpating. Many learnt to genuinely forgive offenders for the first time. ATEN's Divya Khanal coordinated the seminar. Ramesh Khatry helped in editing the manual, organising prayer, and teaching. Teachers from UMN were: Joe Campbell, Janet Campbell, Bal Kumari Gurung, and David McConkey. ATEN and UMN will organise regional seminars in East and West Nepal in the latter part of 2008. In addition to theological education, ATEN has taken on the reconciliation ministry because the 10 year old conflict between the government and the Maoists has left many bitter, wounded, revengeful citizens who need healing, which only our Lord Jesus can provide.

Mainly, the Association for Theological Education in Nepal (ATEN) exists to promote Biblical education in Nepal. We have been at it from 1993!

At present, our association consists of 28 members (Bible schools, colleges and church groups). ATEN currently runs a library and aims to attract Christians who are either involved in the teaching/preaching ministry or are students attending various Bible colleges around Kathmandu. ATEN will help any interested Bible college seek affiliation for the five year integreated Bachelor of Divinity degree (BD) in 2012 under affiliation with Serampore University, initially begun as a college by William Carey himself. BD is a theological graduate degree recognized worldwide. Students with 10+2 or high school pass and two years of college can attend. Budding writers can live in the hostel at ATEN for six months and produce a book, either in English or Nepali. The book should be on the Bible, contemporary issues or history. Writers will receive free food and board, and monthly pocket-money.
